Was walking down street on friday evening with partner and saw a lone special constable trying to deal with a load of aggressive, rowdy teenagers - not very successfully I may add. Then heard that there had been some trouble over the weekend with some of the fairground lot fighting with driffield youths - where were the police? Apparently, over 2o miles away dealing with something else, so who was left to try and cope with the trouble in Driffield, yep you guessed it - some PCSO's!! How long before Driffield Police Station is only staffed by PCSO's? Am not denigrating them and good luck to them - but it won't be long before one of them is seriously hurt as trouble makers realise that they have no real powers! |

Just found this...quote:
PCSOs are not police officers and do not perform the same duties. Schedule 4 of the Police Reform Act 2002 sets out the powers available to PCSOs:
* issue fixed penalty tickets for minor anti-social behaviour * confiscate alcohol being consumed in designated public places * confiscate tobacco from young people * enter and search premises to save life and limb or prevent serious damage * seize vehicles used to cause harm to other persons * remove abandoned vehicles * carry out road checks in the company of a constable * enforce cordoned areas in the event of a suspected terrorist incident * search bags and stop and search motor vehicles with a constable under the terrorism Act 2000 * require the name and address of a person acting in an anti-social manner * detain a person for up to 30 minutes pending the arrival of a constable * use reasonable force to detain a person under certain circumstances
Considering they get a starting Salary of £15,000 compared to a regular constable at about £20,000, I don't quite see the massive savings or benefits of having them |

| Have to agree with you there. Surely the money would be better spent on more beat police officers with proper powers. How long before a PCSO is seriously hurt and there is an outcry? Come to think of it what's wrong with having bobbies on the beat anyway? It's reassuring to residents, the bobbies get to know the people on their beat and whilst were at it, let's give them the power to give a clip round the lug to unruly yobs!! |

It's hardly surprising that there isn't the money to pay for more officers on the beat when the bureaucratic gravy train that has been rumbling through the public services since New Labour came to power in 1997 continues to gobble up more and more financial resources.
Look at education, fire, health, police, councils, etc - more and more bureaucrats and highly paid executives - but what ARE they doing - EXACTLY ?! |

Turnip Town do I detect by any chance a hint of frission against the local authorities, the police, health and New Labour? Carry on at this rate and i won't be able to accuse Driffield of being Apathyville anymore will I? |

Lol, I used to be a Labour voter but, I have to confess, I no longer vote as Labour and Conservatives at least are simply southern based elitist organisations who are only really bothered about issues either in the south or the cities and forget everybody else.
What happen to New Labour's inclusive society ? Seems a bit like communism - some parts of society are more equal than others!
I have no doubt that, sooner or later, some Conservative or Labour member/supporter may read this and try to convince me that their own organisation has done so much for society in this, that or the other area and by umpteen per cent in the last however many years. These people completely miss the point - a lot of the electorate are not remotely interested in political statistical waffle.
What they want to know are things like:
If you are going to cut the waste collection service to once a fortnight - will we get a modest reduction in our council tax ?
What have you done (no not planning to, hoping to, intending to) about fixing the local roads in terms of surface condition or gritting pavements in winter ?
What EXACTLY are the benefits of staying in the European Union ? We keep getting told how good it is to be in the EU, ok, how many new factories have opened up in our locality providing decent and sustainable employment opportunities as a result of EU influence ?
Why are we, or appear to be, giving away, more and more of our own law making powers to the EU ? The UK is slowly collapsing under the sheer weight of mindless bureacracy seemingly designed to make life for businesses, local authorities and the individual as expensive, inefficient and unnecessarily difficult as possible.
And then we get flooded by cheap foreign imports from asia which UK businesses cannot compete with due to our own own Whitehall or EU imposed overheads!
Having your car tracked for road tolls - is this the UK or is it an EU inspired piece of nonsense ? Will I have no privacy when I drive my car ? We have human rights and then not-so-human rights!
Why is our Prime Minister so concerned with freeing countries like Iraq and Afghanistan from the likes of Saddam Hussein and the Taliban and yet at the same time, keeps allowing more and more of our decision making and freedoms to be given away to the dictatorial European Union ?!
Will the rail service be improved in my area by more than just a lick of paint on the victorian station benches when literally billions of pounds of taxpayers money gets spent in the south east ?
Nine billion pounds on the Olympic games preparations is obscene considering what that sort of money could do in other areas of the UK. Anybody who seriously thinks that spending that sum will benefit anywhere but the south has their heads buried, not just in the sand, but in concrete!
Phew. I will put my soap box away for now!

| Not only are more powers being devolved to the EU but we are slowly but surely heading towards a Big Brother police state. Armies of snoopers will enter your home to make their decisions on what to tax you on, armies of traffic warden gendarmes will be waiting for you outdoors (providing you have enough money left to run a car after paying road toll charges) and more armies of bureaucratic zombies will know every single little detail of your life once you have re-applied for your passport. Soon our televisions will start daily broadcasts telling us how wonderful the EU and its leaders are and we will be slowly brainwashed (we may even start wearing b**ge uniforms!) |

Let's use the word Blunderside, whenever we hear Humberside
Eventually, we can make the word Humberside unfashionable, and get the big organisations to 'join' East Yorkshire.
Might sound unlikely, but then there are many companiea and individuals who used to call themselves merchant bankers, but they don;t call themselves that anymore!

I like the bit where it says pcso have the power to seize vehicles used to cause harm to other persons, does that mean they can seize the oap hoodlums that drive into you with mobility scooters ? or the oap mobility hoodlums that drive on the road no doubt without any insurance ? they are a menace !! |

| Just read Petes list of duty for PCSO albeit Three years ago. WHAT IS A CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCE???????????????. EUGH, Blood, Sweat, Tears seriously though folks. Let us as the public know even if we get it in black n white through our doors (good move maybe) then we know these very public aware PCSO Know what they are doing and can back it up. Mainly for their safety. Becos they gotta realise that a skinful of ale gets more power then a none backed up PCSO! |

Its a skin full of ale that causes the trouble.
Parking in Driffield is a joke, Dodge City the Disabled Car parking capital of the wolds.
May be our MP could do something about it but he will be sorting his expenses claim out and seeing what he can cut out of his food bill. He should try the Quail Eggs, Champagne, smoked salmon, and lobsters or may be the food bill is high because he shops at Waitrose!-anyway the tax payers paid for it. He needs expenses like that so that he can do his job!any other profession or business and they would be sacked and prosecuted. |

| You got to be careful becos the benefit guys are WATCHING U. What a charade they can rip us off in government then they give the government powers to Carte Blanche! HELLO.Ohh so many bad feelings. Would not be so bad but they get a golden handshake to make them feel better, plus a leetle bit more to cushion the blow. Then they wonder why they not get good turnout for Vote! Do they get a labotomy when they join government? |

Well what about that naughty woman who lied to get her kids into a better school. They have been kind enough to let her off. I should think so -ok she shouldn't have done it but it didn't involve tax payers money- any MPs being prosecuted? Any bankers being preosecuted? They have cost this country billions and many more billions world wide, do they get prosecuted? No they get a 9 million pay off. Democrasy? What do you think?

| North Lincoln shire Council are going to fine people that stop and keep their engine running. I wish ERYC would do the same. When we drive though we count the number of Disabled Parked anywhere and the getaway cars parked outside the shops .These are people that haven't earned the right for a disabled permit yet. So come on Council come to Driffield you would make a fortune.Driffield the Disabled Drivers centre of the Universe |
